Leeds United’s under-23s went head-to-head against Scunthorpe in a friendly on Tuesday.
While the identities of the trialists who have recently been turning out for Leeds United’s under-23s remain a mystery to most, we can at least confirm that one unnamed player who turned out for the Whites against Burnley earlier this month did not feature against Scunthorpe United.
Three trialists took to the field for the recent friendly against Burnley, with an unnamed goalkeeper doing relatively well in a 1-0 defeat.
However, 18-year-old Will Huffer was between the posts this time round, so at least one of the players on trial last week appears to have moved on.
Despite the trialist having a solid game at the back against the Clarets, his presence was somewhat surprising given the sheer number of ‘keepers at Elland Road right now.
Not only are Rob Green, Marco Silvestri, Ross Turnbull and Bailey Peacock-Farrell all competing for a first-team spot; there is also the young pair of Huffer and Theo Richardson, both of whom are looking to earn new deals in the summer, while 16-year-old Harrison Male is also coming through the ranks.
With all those stoppers to call on, it seems goalkeeper is the one area of the field where a trialist is not necessary, and while we can only speculate given the mystery surrounding the unnamed players, Huffer’s presence against Scunthorpe certainly suggests at least one has not made the grade.
