Tottenham Hotspur loaned out the Dutchman in the summer, and replaced him with the experienced Spaniard.
Reports emanating from Turkey today suggest that Vincent Janssen could be heading back to Spurs in January, with Turkish media outlet Fanatik claiming that Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bolster his attacking ranks.
The 23-year-old joined Tottenham from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £17 million, but desperately struggled for form, scoring just six goals in 39 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites.
The striker has not exactly set the world alight in Turkey either, scoring just two goals in 11 Super Lig outings.

He was shipped out to Fenerbahce on a season-long loan in the summer, but Fanatik now claim that Spurs are exploring the possibility of recalling the Dutchman.
As strange as that my seem, with Spurs’ hectic schedule over the next few months, it wouldn’t be a total surprise, but what would Janssen’s potential return mean for summer signing Fernando Llorente?
The Spaniard has really struggled to establish himself in north London after making his summer switch from Swansea City, scoring just one goal in 19 outings for his club.
With Harry Kane being the first name on Tottenham’s team-sheet when fit, the former Juventus and Athletic Bilbao man will always have to accept that he is second choice at Spurs.
If Janssen is recalled though, he might just drop down to third choice in the striking pecking order, and whether he would be willing to accept that at this stage of his career is highly doubtful.
With the January transfer window just five days away from opening, this will certainly be one to keep a close eye on, and if Janssen does in fact return to Spurs, it could mean a premature end for Llorente’s Tottenham career.
