Mikel Arteta has delivered an update on the future of Newcastle United target Joe Willock.
Speaking to Football London ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Bretford this week, the Gunners coach gave a vague answer when asked about the latest in Willock’s proposed move to Newcastle.
The Toon had agreed a fee for the Arsenal youngster earlier in the week. However, as reported by Sky Sports News, Willock and Newcastle are struggling to agree to personal terms.
And Arteta didn’t help matters in his pre-match press conference with an unhelpful answer when asked about the latest on Willock to Newcastle.
The Arsenal manager said: “The situation is that he is our player.
“We had some conversations, what he’s done is a put himself in a strong position where he can choose what his future could look like. That’s what we’re trying to define right now.”
With the Toon set to kick-off their Premier League campaign this weekend against West Ham United, Willock is unlikely to be signed by that point.

However, with under three weeks of the window left to go, time is on the Magpies hands when trying to bring the midfielder back to Newcastle.
But on social media, Newcastle supporters are stumped on Arteta’s comments on the 21-year-old Arsenal prospect.
Here’s what some Newcastle fans had to say on Twitter about what Arteta had to say on Willock…
