Leeds United are reportedly keen on Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Helder Costa, Liverpool’s Ryan Kent and they could also potentially return for Jack Harrison.
Leeds United’s Jack Clarke burst onto the scene during the recently concluded campaign and despite Marcelo Bielsa’s side missing out on promotion, he was a bright light in their season.
But recent reports surrounding Leeds’ interest in Wolves winger Helder Costa, Liverpool’s Ryan Kent and a potential return for Jack Harrison will surely mean that Clarke will be fearing the worst about his future development.
The Yorkshire Evening Post have claimed that Leeds want to add three wingers to their squad for next season, with Wolves’ Costa, Liverpool’s academy product Kent and Manchester City’s Harrison potential targets.
If the trio do sign then surely someone like Clarke will be fearing for his future development because it needs to be remembered that Pablo Hernandez is also at the club.
Despite being 18-years-old, Clarke showed huge promise in his breakthrough campaign and in order for him to take the next step he needs to be playing.
Signing the above players does bulk up the squad which Bielsa needs, but it could also stall the rise of Clarke, who will want to cement his place in the starting XI for next season, just like fellow academy product Kalvin Phillips has done.
The Independent recently claimed that several Premier League clubs have shown interest in the Leeds teenager and have made contact with the Yorkshire club.
Clarke’s performances last season and interest in his services from teams higher up prove that he is too good for the Under-21’s now and a loan move to another Championship club wouldn’t be ideal either given the interest in him.
Therefore, he would have to do very well to breakthrough the number of players that could potentially be ahead of him in the pecking order when the new season kicks off.
Leeds have been known to bring through a lot of youngsters over the years, but just like Fabian Delph, Lewis Cook and Ronaldo Vieira, they have also been known to let them go early. That’s something they will want to avoid with Clarke.
