Everton’s Mason Holgate was on-loan in the Championship last season as the club are reportedly plotting a move for Luton Town’s James Justin.

Everton have joined Leicester City in the race for highly-rated Luton Town defender James Justin, according to The Liverpool Echo.
It is said that the Foxes are leading the race for fullbacks signature, who recently earned promotion to the Championship, as Everton look for right-back options and competition for Seamus Coleman ahead of the new season.
Versatile defender Mason Holgate moved to Championship side West Brom in January on a six-month loan deal as the 22-year-old was deployed at right-back throughout his time in the Midlands.
Prior to him moving to the Hawthorns, Marco Silva did use Holgate at centre-back, but he clearly felt that he needed regular game time elsewhere – He got that in abundance at West Brom, but at right-back.
Therefore, the question has to be asked what does the future hold for Holgate at Everton and where will Silva be planning on using him?
It seemingly won’t be at right-back because after coming through his long-term injury, Coleman is now looking back to his best and if Everton can push for a deal, Justin could be joining them.

Therefore, it means that Holgate has to impress in pre-season for that centre-back role with a place up for grabs following Kurt Zouma’s return to Chelsea.
If he doesn’t then it does raise the question as to what will happen to him next. Could another loan deal in the Championship suffice?
But considering Holgate played at right-back at West Brom, it is obvious that those at Everton don’t see him as an option in that area of the pitch.
