The Tottenham Hotspur defender has been recalled from his loan spell at Sheffield United.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has been gaining valuable experience on loan at Sheffield United, but has now returned to his parent club.
The centre-back has gone back to Tottenham, as reported by the club’s official website, and it will be intriguing to see what the next step will be in his development.
Carter-Vickers made 18 appearances in total for Sheffield United but saw his game time limited in recent weeks and it was unlikely that he would have featured heavily for the Championship side had he stayed there for the rest of the season.
There is a role for Carter-Vickers to fulfil at Tottenham as, with Toby Alderweireld still out injured, the 20-year-old could step in and replace Juan Foyth as defensive cover.
Foyth is rather inexperienced and Carter-Vickers, having featured regularly in the Championship this season, would be a more suitable option to call upon if Tottenham’s defensive resources are depleted further.
Strong physically and composed in possession, Carter-Vickers has made just four senior appearances for Tottenham so far and will be determined to add to that tally.
There is a possibility that Carter-Vickers could be loaned out again before the close of the transfer window, but perhaps the best option would be for him to remain at Tottenham and provide a useful back-up option for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
