Tottenham have moved to the front of the queue to sign Kieran Tierney from Celtic, but what would that mean for the future of Danny Rose?

Tottenham Hotspur are now the favourites to sign Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, reports ESPN, moving ahead of other interested parties Arsenal and Manchester United.

This is despite the fact Tierney has just signed a new six-year contract with the Scottish champions and is happy to continue his development at Parkhead under the guidance of manager Brendan Rodgers.

Yet Spurs think they can tempt the 20-year-old to the Premier League having been greatly impressed with his recent performances and sending chief scout Chris Hitchen to watch the youngster in action against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday (October 31).

Once again Tierney shone on the biggest stage as the Bhoys lost 2-1 to Bayern, with Rodgers saying afterwards: “Kieran Tierney was up against Arjen Robben and he was outstanding again. I had Danny Rose as a young player at Watford and I worked with Ryan Bertrand at Chelsea, and Kieran is right up there with those boys.”

The fact the Northern Irishman has compared the full-back to Rose is an interesting one, as the Scotland international’s potential arrival at Tottenham could signal the end of the latter’s time there.

The 27-year-old’s future in North London has been in doubt since he gave an interview to the Sun over the summer in which he publicly criticised the club’s transfer policy and wage structure.

Rose missed the start of the current season with a knee injury, but since his return to fitness has been benched for three games, starting just one – in the Carabao Cup – and being brought on for the final ten minutes of the 1-1 draw at Real Madrid.

In the England international’s absence Ben Davies has risen to prominence and done well and if Tierney joined too it would seem like there is no longer room for the out-of-favour defender under boss Mauricio Pochettino.
