You could forgive Tyler Denton if he wasn’t jumping for joy over the rumour that Leeds United want to sign left-back Scott Malone in January.
The former Fulham star hasn’t started a Premier League game for Huddersfield Town this season following a summer switch from the Cottagers and Clubcall reported this week that Leeds were interested in the 26-year-old.
If true then it only adds to the uncertainty surrounding Denton’s long-term future at Elland Road.
The 22-year-old left-back is impressing for League Two outfit Port Vale on a season-long loan from United but Malone would represent yet another obstacle in between him and regular football for the Yorkshire side next term.
The fact that Denton was the only recognised left-back in the squad following Charlie Taylor’s departure and let go anyway suggests that Director of Football Victor Orta does not see a future for him in West Yorkshire.
Orta did sign up the Thorp Arch product to a new deal before shipping him off to the Potteries, but this does not indicate that he envisages him to be an important player for Leeds down the road.
With Vurnon Anita and Gaetano Berardi ahead of him in the pecking order now, Malone would surely make it even harder for Denton to succeed at the Whites.
