Scott Carson has lost his place as Derby County’s number one goalkeeper with Kelle Roos starting the last four Championship games.

Is Scott Carson set to become the latest victim of the cost-cutting measures at Derby County?

Owner Mel Morris has been desperate to slash the budget in recent months with The Rams bidding farewell to Tom Ince, Andi Weimann, Jacob Butterfield, Jason Shackell and even Matej Vydra – their top scorer in the 2017/18 season.

And it seems that long-serving goalkeeper Carson might be the next on the chopping block.

According to The Sun (17 February, page 61), Derby are keen to sign Brighton and Hove Albion’s England U21 international Christian Walton in the summer. The 23-year-old is currently on loan in the Championship at Wigan Athletic and The Rams are understood to be keen to sign him permanently.

This report emerged just a day before manager Frank Lampard confirmed that Derby are speaking to Kelle Roos about extending a contract that expires at the end of this season, as reported by the Derby Telegraph.

Roos has taken Carson’s place as the number one in recent weeks, the Dutchman starting Derby’s last four Championship games.

So with Roos set to stay and Walton lined up, it is tempting to wonder whether Derby are prepared to say goodbye to another of their most experienced players.
