Let’s face it, Leeds United fans don’t have a lot of reasons to criticise Pablo Hernandez.

The Spanish maestro was Leeds’ Player of the Year last season after scoring seven Championship goals and setting up eight.

In addition to that, the former Swansea City playmaker is one of the most aesthetically-pleasing footballers to have passed through Elland Road for quite some time.

But if there is one area where he deserves criticism, it might be work rate.

The 33-year-old is not exactly the paradigm of hard work on a football pitch, with his off-the-ball work questionable at the best of times.

And could this cause problems with new head coach Marcelo Bielsa?

The Argentine, who was appointed as the new Leeds boss on Friday, is well known for demanding a high-intensity work ethic from his players out of possession and it will be interesting to see whether Hernandez complies with the new philosophy.

His natural ability has compensated for such deficiencies under Garry Monk, Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom, but it remains to be seen whether Bielsa lets him off the hook on the basis that he is supremely gifted in possession.
