Liverpool are said to be targeting Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam – should that be a worry for Andrew Robertson?

Liverpool have reportedly joined Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester City in the pursuit of Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam, according to the Metro.

Ghoulam has been a mainstay in the starting XI since joining the Serie A outfit in the summer of 2014 from Saint-Etienne, playing 148 games for them to date.

However, he has been strongly linked with a switch to England with both the Blues and City in search of support on the left side of defence and now it seems the Reds have joined the chase.

The position has been a big problem for the Merseyside club during Jurgen Klopp’s time as manager, with James Milner converted to play there last season due to concerns over the performances of Alberto Moreno.

Yet that seemed to have been addressed over the summer when Andrew Robertson was signed from Hull City, but since then Moreno has actually become the preferred choice in the role once again.

Targeting Ghoulam suggests Klopp is still not convinced by the Spaniard, though, which is perhaps unsurprising considering the 25-year-old has hardly been convincing in defence once again this term. What is surprising is the limited opportunities Robertson has had.

The Scotland international has made just three appearances in all competitions in 2017/18 and if this interest in Ghoulam is true then that should be worrying news for the 23-year-old about what lies ahead for his future at Anfield both in the short and long-term.
