Newcastle United are seemingly interested in Garry Rodrigues again.

According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, Newcastle United are interested in signing out-of-favour Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues.

Newcastle were linked to the 27-year-old back in the summer but a move never materialised and the Cape Verde attacker hasn’t kicked a ball for the Turkish giants this season.

But you wonder what it means for Jacob Murphy if Magpies boss Rafael Benitez does get his man this time.

At £12 million, Murphy was Benitez’s most expensive summer recruit following his move from Norwich City, but the 22-year-old has found himself behind Christian Atsu as the Spaniard’s first-choice option at left wing this season.

And bringing in Rodrigues would surely just push Murphy – yet to score or set up a goal in nine Premier League appearances – further down the pecking order on Tyneside.

Rodrigues is primarily a left winger and has 23 goals and 22 assists from his last 85 matches in that role, according to Transfermarkt. Simply put, he looks like being a much more productive figure than Murphy and with January on the horizon, signing him might well mean that Benitez is willing to cut his losses.

The former Canary is nowhere near to justifying his £12 million fee and the longer he goes without impressing, the harder it’s going to be.
