Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested to Football.London that the club will try to sign British players in the coming transfer windows.

Spurs have used their full quota of 17 foreign players in their Champions League squad, and that too without registering Argentina international attacking midfielder Erik Lamela.

Pochettino has suggested that Tottenham are trying to bring more English players through the academy and will try to sign more English players.

“Yes, of course we are restricted,” Pochettino told Football.London. “Now we’re so focused in trying to bring more English players through the academy or if we don’t have this profile, try to take advantage of the English market and add more English players here.”

Ross Barkley in, but no Richarlison?

According to Football.London, Tottenham were interested in signing Barkley from Everton in the summer transfer window.

It has also been reported that the England international attacking midfielder wants to come to Spurs, and that manager Mauricio Pochettino is a big admirer of him.

Pochettino’s comments suggest that Spurs could take a look at Barkley again in January, as the 24-year-old is English.

However, the Argentine boss’s comments suggest that Spurs may not go for Watford forward Richarlison, unless, of course, the North London outfit sell one of their foreign players.

According to The London Evening Standard, Spurs are interested in signing the 20-year-old Brazilian attacker, who joined Watford from Fluminense in the summer transfer window for £13 million.
