The Inter Milan coach is said to want the Belgian in Italy this summer.

Jan Vertonghen has been linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur this week, with Inter Milan said to be keen on his signature.

It was reported by Sky Sport Italia that Inter had floated the idea of a potential swap deal involving Croatian international Marcelo Brozovic heading to White Hart Lane.

Of course the interest from Inter is not coincidental with the appointment of Frank De Boer as the club’s new manager.

De Boer gave Vertonghen his true breakthrough at Ajax earlier in his career and this is the main basis of the link.

The Dutch legend is also well known to Spurs fans for consistent links with the Tottenham job over the years.

So what did Vertonghen say about De Boer when he was linked with the Spurs hotseat back in May 2014.

Voetbal Zone quote him as stating:

“I have a contract (at Spurs) and I’m happy. It does therefore not matter who the new manager for is for me.

Frank de Boer is a good manager, but there are lots of good managers. The chairman will make a good decision.”

There is no doubt Vertonghen is a fan of De Boer but he also clearly knew that Spurs could have appointed anyone to take over from Tim Sherwood that summer. In the end they went with Mauricio Pochettino and the Belgian has flourished under the Argentine’s management.

The Daily Mail reported earlier that Vertonghen was not for sale at any price. Whilst Vertonghen would like to work with De Boer again, of that there will be no doubt, he seems to be dping just fine with his current head coach.
