Harry Redknapp has been left shocked that Alexandre Lacazette earned ‘£200k-a-week’ at Arsenal by questioning ‘what did he do?’, as he told talkSPORT.

The 31-year-old will officially leave Arsenal at the end of June when his contract expires and re-join Lyon – he moved from the French club to England’s capital back in 2017.

During Lacazette’s time in north London, he struggled to help the Gunners return to the Champions League, including Tottenham pipping their rivals to fourth spot on the final day of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

It was a bitter end for Lacazette at Arsenal because of how the team performed in the final weeks, but he still leaves the Emirates as a popular figure with the fans and the youngsters in the dressing room.

But when Redknapp was told about Lacazette’s wages at Arsenal, the former Tottenham boss was left in shock.

“They (Arsenal) are still short,” said Redknapp. “I could only ever see Tottenham finishing above Arsenal. Spurs were miles better.

“I heard you saying earlier that Lacazette was on £200k-a-week. No wonder they let him go. Now he’s gone. What did he do for his 200k?

On Aubameyang: “You needed to get him playing, didn’t you!? They don’t have that many good players. Get him on side. Sometimes you have to swallow it and get them playing for you.”

WHO WILL REPLACE LACAZETTE AT ARSENAL?

Arsenal aren’t exactly efficient or clever when it comes to concluding deals in the transfer market and it’s proven by their striker search.

A number nine was needed when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the building back in January, yet with pre-season around the corner, they don’t seem to be anywhere close to bringing in that new face.

A proven player is needed and a striker that has the ability to knit everything together because he will be walking into the youngest squad in the Premier League.

In truth, for next season, that average age will probably drop given that Lacazette has now left.
