Newcastle United are said to be interested in signing Danny Ings from Liverpool.
If Newcastle United are to sign Danny Ings this summer, Rafael Benitez will have to succeed where Alan Pardew failed by attracting the striker to St. James’ Park.
Newcastle were first linked with Ings back in 2014 (Daily Mail), with Pardew identifying the forward, who was then at Burnley, as a potential target.
However, Ings’ head was not turned by Newcastle’s interest last time.
He said, three years ago, to the Daily Mirror: “I don’t understand why it has have gone crazy on social media and the like.
“I signed a four-year contract when I came here and obviously I still have a year left.
“I don’t feel there should be any panic. I am just enjoying my football and going into my last year of my contract.
“As far as I am concerned, Burnley Football Club and the Premier League is where I am, 100 per cent.
“Everybody knows I enjoy playing for Burnley Football Club. It’s a fantastic family club and I am not looking to leave.”
Ings was true to his word, and stuck with Burnley – rejecting Newcastle’s advances in the process.
In the end, Ings decided to move to Liverpool once his contract at Turf Moor had expired.
Since making the switch to Anfield, Ings has been plagued with injury problems, which have stopped him forcing his way into Jurgen Klopp’s team.
If Ings was to sign for Newcastle this summer, he would be in competition with Dwight Gayle for a first-team place.
Liverpool are said to value Ings at £15 million (Daily Star), but Newcastle are confident of agreeing a cheaper price.
