Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Yusuf Yazici, but surely that will leave Josh Onomah’s future in doubt.
With Mauricio Pochettino tending to keep most of the youngsters he sees having a first-team future with Tottenham around, Josh Onomah may have felt that he had a challenge on his hands trying to prove that he still has a future with Spurs after being loaned out to Aston Villa.
Onomah has generally done well since arriving at Villa Park, particularly thriving during the Villans’ November fixtures – and he may have been hoping that that sent a positive message to Pochettino.
He recently suggested to the Birmingham Mail that he plans to try and get back into the Spurs team when his loan is finished, but perhaps those plans could be scuppered if Tottenham land Yusuf Yazici, who has recently been linked with a move to the Premier League.
Turkish outlet Sporx suggested that Spurs are now keen on the Trabzonspor midfielder – so if they manage to bring him in, surely Onomah needs to be asking serious questions about his future.
Like Onomah, Yazici is a 20-year-old attacking midfielder. The youngster has done well in the Turkish top flight this term, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in the league, meaning that he has had a direct hand in the same number of goals as Onomah – who has scored three and provided one assist.
If Pochettino signs him, then you would imagine that he would move ahead of the Villa loanee in the pecking order. And given the options that Spurs already have in attacking areas, adding another name to the ranks would surely leave Onomah’s path too congested, and should perhaps leave the Englishman wondering whether staying put at Tottenham is the right decision for his development.
