Leeds United put their recent woes behind them with an impressive 3-0 victory against Bristol City on Saturday, with the performance of Kalvin Phillips again highlighted for all the right reasons.

After calls for a change in the centre of the park, Leeds fans got their wish in an unexpected way, with Ronaldo Vieira returning alongside Eunan O’Kane and Phillips pushed further forward, and the latter’s performance could be bad news for one of the Whites’ under-performing stars.

Pablo Hernandez was once the go-to guy for creativity in this Leeds squad, yet a significant summer overhaul and a dip in form from the Spaniard means he could now struggle to get back into the team, especially if Phillips does as well as he did against City.

There have been questions over whether Hernandez and Samu Saiz can play in the same side, but after the latter’s two-goal haul on Saturday, there are no such problems with him and Phillips.

Hernandez’s influence has waned in recent weeks and some Leeds fans believe it could be the beginning of the end for a player who should be blossoming amid such attacking talent, not falling by the wayside.

As long as Phillips plays like he did against Bristol City, Hernandez will have to get used to a bit-part role, and if Leeds keep winning that is no bad thing.
