Leeds United have two young right wingers on their books now.
New Leeds United manager Garry Monk is wasting little time building his squad for next season, with the loan signing of Hadi Sacko following a similar deal for Kyle Bartley and a permanent move for Marcus Antonsson.
But when it comes to the young Frenchman’s arrival, would could it mean for fellow winger Jordan Botaka?
The DR Congo international arrived at Elland Road last summer, and despite plenty of tricks and flicks it took him until the final few weeks of the campaign to show he has what it takes to succeed in the Championship, finally adding the work rate and end product to his game.
Following that breakthrough Botaka would no doubt have been hoping to impress Monk and add to his 14 Leeds appearances to date. However, Sacko’s arrival throws a potential spanner in the works, with both players likely to be competing for a chance in the same position.
While Leeds’ latest signing can also operate on the opposite wing or as a secondary striker, he works most effectively on the right side of midfield and it seems the two men will now have pre-season to stake their case for a starting spot.
Botaka will have known that earning regular first-team football at Leeds was not going to be easy, but he may not have thought it would be this hard.
