There has been no shortage of comparisons between the Dallas Mavericks’ first overall pick Cooper Flagg and LeBron James.
Some believe Flagg has the tools to one day surpass what LeBron achieved over his remarkable career.
Flagg’s age is a huge advantage. At just 18, he is already rewriting parts of the record book, and time is firmly on his side to do even more.
However, the task would prove challenging. Flagg finally had his opportunity to face James during the Mavericks’ last NBA Cup group stage contest against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Mavericks’ tough season rolled on with a 129-119 loss to the Lakers, adding another frustrating result against a Western Conference opponent.
Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves were the standouts in this one, while James had a quieter game. Even so, Flagg was quick to praise the four-time NBA champion for his impact.
“It’s incredible, obviously, to see what he’s still able to do. However old he is, it’s just incredible, and I think the best thing for him is how smart he is.”
Flagg continued: “He’s always one of the smartest players on the court. He played with such a high IQ, making the game easy on himself.
“Tonight, he didn’t do anything crazy; he didn’t have to. He just kept it simple and just made the smartest plays on every possession.”

Even before he had shared a court with him, LeBron was already drawing comparisons between Flagg and Kawhi Leonard, seeing similar qualities in his game.
The 18-year-old did not exactly light up the box score but still put together a well-rounded performance with 13 points, seven rebounds, and 11 assists.
Meanwhile, LeBron finished with 13 points, five rebounds, and seven assists in the Lakers’ win.
While their numbers were similar on the night, it is worth remembering that they are at very different stages of their careers – one just starting out, the other nearing the end of a legendary run.
