A hallmark of Chris Gotterup’s three victories on the PGA Tour this season have been his sensational performances on Sunday to get across the line.
Gotterup secured his third win of the year at the John Deere Classic this past week, with the 26-year-old posting a 62 in the final round to come from five shots back.
How many golfers in the current game will be remembered in 50 years time?
Who is leaving the greatest legacy?
It follows Gotterup’s victories at the Sony Open in Hawaii and the WM Phoenix Open earlier in the season.
Interestingly, Gotterup fired rounds of 64 on Sunday at both Waialae and TPC Scottsdale.
With that, the youngster made some history on the PGA Tour with his win at TPC Deere Run.
What Chris Gotterup became the first player to do in 40 years on the PGA Tour
Gotterup has not led after 54 holes for any of his three wins this season. In fact, he has required heroics in all three tournaments to bring himself into the mix down the stretch.
And taking to X ahead of Gotterup’s victory in Illinois being confirmed on Sunday, Justin Ray revealed that he was on course to do something not seen on the PGA Tour in at least four decades.

He wrote: ‘If Chris Gotterup wins today, it will be his 3rd win of the season while carding a final round score of 64 or lower.
‘No player in the last 40 years has 3 wins in the same PGA Tour season with final round scores of 64 or better.‘
The most significant Sunday in Chris Gotterup’s career set the stage for the 2026 season
Of course, the most famous final round of Gotterup’s career to date actually came last year with the display that turned him into a household name.
Few would have given Gotterup any chance of winning the Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club given that he was joined by Rory McIlroy in the final group in North Berwick.
McIlroy had won the event previously, with a plaque on the 18th hole in place to mark the iconic two-iron he hit on his way to victory in 2023.
Nevertheless, Gotterup stood up to the challenge and ended up winning by two shots.
Gotterup does not come across as arrogant in any way. He appears to have an amazing attitude to the game.
But it would have been nearly impossible for his confidence to not receive a significant boost from that victory on the other side of the Atlantic.
He has now proven that he can handle battling with the best – and that he should never be counted out going into the final round of a tournament.
