According to The Mirror, Carlos Corberan is one of the frontrunners for the West Brom job after Steve Bruce was dumped by the Baggies.

The Spaniard, of course, has a wealth of experience in the Championship, he was Marcelo Bielsa’s assistant during his time at Leeds United, while he also took Huddersfield Town to a playoff final last season before leaving the Terriers.

Corberan is now being linked with a move to the Hawthorns, and this could be a job that intrigues the former Leeds man.

Indeed, Corberan managed against this West Brom team twice last season, and he was complimentary about the players the Baggies had at their disposal, stating that they’re ‘very good’ players with a competitive edge.

Corberan a fan

Corberan was complimentary about West Brom’s squad last season.

“They’re a different team to the team that we faced earlier in the season, but with the same players, and last year, a lot of those players were competing in the Premier League,” Corberan said.

“Their last win against Hull City will make them more dangerous because they’ll want to keep going and get something from the Championship this season.

“I know that the players they have are very competitive and good players.

“We’ll be playing against a team with very strong players and a very experienced coach.”

Better now

Corberan was a fan of the West Brom squad last season, and it’s even better now – even if their league position doesn’t reflect that.

Aside from Sam Johnstone and Callum Robinson, the Baggies didn’t lose many key players over the summer, while the additions of Okay Yokuslu, John Swift and Jed Wallace are impressive signings.

Bruce didn’t get much out of this team, but Corberan certainly could get this side playing to their full potential, and he’s seemingly very aware of how good this team could be.
