Kevin Campbell has suggested on Highbury Squad that Ryan Bertrand would be a good signing for Arsenal.

The former Arsenal striker cannot believe that some fans of the North London club do not want the 31-year-old left-back to make the switch to the Gunners from Southampton.

The England international defender will leave Southampton this summer when his current contract with the Saints runs out.

The Daily Mail reported last week that Arsenal are in talks to sign the England international.

Campbell said on Highbury Squad: “In certain areas we need the quality, and in certain areas we need the numbers. Like a back-up for Tierney. I think it’s so important.

“Do you know what? Some Arsenal fans have been turning their nose up at at Bertrand. I am like, ‘What?’ Okay, who would they go for?

“Because you have got to remember that a lot of the players you would like, they only want to be starters.”

Kieran Tierney is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.

It is hard to see Arsenal bring in a left-back who is as good as the former Celtic star and still be willing to play second fiddle.

Arsenal simply would not get such a player.

True, Bertrand is not exactly a world-class left-back, but he is at the top of his game, has a lot of experience, and would be a free agent in a matter of weeks.

Tierney has had injury problems during his time at Arsenal.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has actually played midfielder Granit Xhaka at left-back at times when the Scotland international left-back has been on the sidelines.

It is important that the Gunners bring in a specialised left-back this summer.
