Tyrone Mings would be Aston Villa’s best summer signing if Dean Smith can get it done.

Dean Smith must be optimistic about signing Tyrone Mings on a full-time basis, if his comments in January are anything to go by.
The Bournemouth defender has been a revelation since joining Aston Villa on a short-term arrangement in January.
Mings, who earns £37,000 per week with the Premier League club [Spotrac], is a key member of one of the Championship’s most in-form defences, with Smith’s side conceding three times during a six-match winning streak at the moment.
Most Villa fans would love the 26-year-old on a permanent basis, and Smith revealed after signing him that there was a ‘hope’ that he’d be coming for the long term.
He said to The Birmingham Mail back in January: “With the Tyrone one we’re hoping come the end of the season he can commit to Villa full time.”
Premier League promotion or not, Smith will be expected to significantly strengthen his Aston Villa side this summer, but Mings might be the best deal they do.
He has proven himself a huge asset in the Championship and although his reported wages are steep, it’s worth it.
This is a player who has only just turned 26 in March. He’s the perfect age for a centre-back – old enough to know about responsibility and pressure, but young enough to have many more years left in the tank.
