Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Callum Wilson has been discussing Newcastle United fans and their interactions with players around the city.
Newcastle, more than any other city, is centred on its football club, and Wilson is more than aware of how much the people of Newcastle adore their team.
Wilson says that he can’t go anywhere in the city without being recognised and he says that sometimes when he’s out and about people will actually start chanting at him while he’s socialising.
In fact, hilariously, Wilson says that the Newcastle fans can sometimes chant other players’ songs at him, leaving him very confused.

Wilson serenaded
The striker spoke about how fans sometimes chant at him when he’s out and about.
“When you go out for dinner or anything like that, people will start chants in the place. So if I’m there with a few of the boys they start singing Alex Isak’s song at me, and I’m like ‘woah, calm yourself down, what are you doing?’ and if there’s another midfielder there they’ll shout ‘Bruno is magic’ to them. These guys act like losers I swear sometimes. But these are good songs so I sing along to them anyway even if it’s about someone else. Unbelievable atmospheres in the stadium at the moment.”
Unique fanbase
That’s what you sign up for when you join Newcastle United.
This is a fanbase that is completely unique. Everyone in Newcastle loves their football, and the players are held at an almost deity-level amongst some communities.
Most teams’ fans would maybe ask for an autograph or a picture if they saw their team out and about, but Newcastle fans are just different.
Of course, they start chants whenever they see their heroes, that’s pretty much what being a Newcastle fan is all about, and we’re sure most of the players wouldn’t have it any other way.
That being said, it’s probably worth chanting the right songs at players when they are out and about, because it sounds as though Wilson is getting pretty tired of hearing the Isak chant sung at him.
