Fans missed out on another Grand Slam final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, but the two still put together solid runs at Melbourne Park.
Even without another final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the Australian swing reinforced the sense that the pair remain the men everyone else must beat.
Sinner’s defence in Australian Open ended in the quarterfinals after a five-set battle with Novak Djokovic, while Alcaraz powered through the draw and defeated the Serb in the final, becoming the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam at 22. With both men still clear at the top of the rankings, belief around the locker room is being tested.
Bublik lifts the lid on locker-room mindset

Speaking on the Nothing Major, Alexander Bublik was asked by Sam Querrey whether players genuinely feel a major is attainable while the two dominant forces are in the field.
Bublik admitted the prevailing mood is cautious. In his view, few competitors openly talk about lifting trophies when Alcaraz and Sinner are around. The expectation, he suggested, is that most routes to the title will eventually collide with one of them.
He even joked that chaos would follow if both were removed unexpectedly. A draw without Alcaraz, Sinner and perhaps Djokovic, he implied, would leave the remaining contenders staring at an opportunity so big it might feel harder to handle than facing the favourites themselves.
How Bublik’s Melbourne run unfolded
Arriving in Australia after the strongest season of his career, Bublik made a confident start. He dismissed Jenson Brooksby and Marton Fucsovics in straight sets to move smoothly into the third round.
There, Tomas Martin Etcheverry pushed him with a pair of tight tiebreaks, but the 10th seed still advanced without dropping a set.
His campaign ended in the last 16, where home favourite Alex de Minaur proved far too strong in a 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 victory. De Minaur would go on to reach the quarterfinals before being stopped by Alcaraz, another reminder of the hurdle Bublik believes awaits almost everyone.
