Chris Sutton has claimed that Sebastien Haller could do a job for West Ham now, as he told BBC’s 606.
But the former striker doesn’t think Blackburn Rovers striker, Ben Brereton Díaz, is ‘at the level’ of a Michail Antonio if West Ham decided to sign him up.
Given that Diaz is taking the Championship by storm this season, he has scored 20 goals in 30 games, it did result in his talents being linked with a possible move to the London Stadium in January.
In the end, nothing materialised and the 22-year-old stayed put, but with 12 months left on his deal come the summer, then he’s probably either making a transfer to the Premier League or earning promotion with Blackburn.
Either way, when Sutton was talking about West Ham’s lack of striker options behind Antonio, he mentioned their former player Haller and Rovers star, Diaz.
“You could do with Haller now, he’s scoring a barrel load of goals,” said Sutton. “But what about a back-up to Antonio?
On Diaz taking West Ham to the next level: “What he would do is give Antonio adequate backing.
“I don’t think Ben Brereton Díaz is at the level of Antonio. I think Bowen does a really good job as a centre-forward.
“But a couple of injuries and West Ham are going to fall short in the Champions League race.”
Ever since Haller has swapped West Ham’s colours for Ajax’s, the Ivory Coast star has transformed his game.
The 27-year-old has scored an incredible 16 goals from his 19 Eredivisie matches, including supplying six assists.
Whilst he is also one of the best performers in the Champions League, scoring a mammoth ten from his six encounters.
Those in east London will be wondering where on earth those performances were when he was donning their colours.
