Nigel de Jong has praised Manchester City star Bernardo Silva on Twitter for his performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford yesterday.

De Jong believes that Silva was the best player on the pitch, as City beat United 2-0 in the Manchester derby.

The former City defensive midfielder was impressed by the work-rate of the 27-year-old, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger.

Silva scored in the first half of the Premier League game.

The Portugal international took two shots, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 94.2%, took 86 touches, attempted two dribbles, made two tackles, and put in two crosses.

Big player for Manchester City

Silva was linked with moves away from City in the summer transfer window.

The Mirror reported in August that Arsenal wanted to sign the Portuguese.

However, the 27-year-old rejected a move to Arsenal, according to journalist Filipe Dias on Sky Sports.

Silva has since been brilliant for the defending Premier League champions.

The City no. 20 has scored three goals and provided one assist in 10 Premier League games so far this season.
