Jose Enrique has praised Marseille for the signing of Leeds United transfer target Azzedine Ounahi and the minimal fee the French club paid for the midfielder, as the former Liverpool defender posted on Instagram.

Marseille have signed one of Morocco’s World Cup stars from Angers for a fee in the region of £8 million, with Enrique pointing out that Liverpool sold Neco Williams for £20 million to Nottingham Forest.

Following Ounahi’s performances at the Qatar World Cup, where Morocco created history by reaching the semi-finals and becoming the first African nation to do so.

The midfielder’s stock went through the roof, including a number of Premier League clubs, such as Leeds United, looking at his talents.

Despite such a small transfer fee involved for the player, rather than join a team in England, he remains in France and he will be hoping to help Marseille push for a Champions League finish again.

Nonetheless, Enrique spoke about how a ‘crazy’ transfer fee wasn’t needed to buy a ‘very good player’, with former Liverpool academy product, Neco Williams, used as an example.

“What a signing for 10m Euros. It shows you don’t have to pay crazy money to get very good players. Just to put it into perspective, we sold Neco Williams for £20 million.”

HAVE PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS MISSED OUT?

It’s going to be interesting to see how Ounahi now fairs in Marseille because certain clubs in England might have missed a trick here.

At the age of 22, there is so much potential in the player’s locker and he would have been a player that would have suited Jesse Marsch’s side.

Brendan Aaronson’s form has started to halt during a healthy start and Leeds need someone who can provide more of a forward approach next to the reliable defensive brain of Tyler Adams.

But what could be the loss of other teams, this transfer is a gain for Marseille.
