Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Alan Shearer has been waxing-lyrical about Andy Robertson.
Shearer, along with Micah Richards and Gary Lineker, was tasked with ranking the top 10 greatest full-backs in Premier League history, and it’s not too much of a surprise to hear that Robertson made the grade.
The Scot has been one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers for a number of years now and Shearer believes that he’s one of the great signings of the Premier League era.
What’s been said?
Shearer was speaking about Robertson along with Lineker.
“Awesome, what a signing, what a signing. Do you remember he was rated by Wrighty? Ian Wright,” Shearer said.
“We were sat in the studio, watching a Hull game and Wrighty said I really like this left-back, this Robertson kid is fantastic. He had a shocker in this game, and we ripped into Wrighty saying what do you know about full-backs? It was probably the only bad game he’s had, since then Mr Wright has been proven right,” Lineker added.
“He’s so reliable, brilliant, he very rarely misses games and yeah if you want him to defend, he can defend and if he’s needed to attack he can do that also,” Shearer concluded.

One of the best
It’s hard to name many better signings than Andy Robertson for £8m.
The fact that Robertson has made this top 10 list of the greatest Premier League full-backs tells you all you need to know about his ability, and at the age of just 27, he could still work his way up this list.
The Scot is a remarkable player and he’s undoubtedly one of the best left-backs this country has ever seen.
Shearer says that Liverpool made a great signing with Robertson, and it’s hard to argue that he isn’t one of the biggest bargains the Reds have ever gotten.
