Wolves fans have been given a worrying update on Julen Lopetegui from Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.
The 54-year-old believes Wolves could now lose the 56-year-old as his future is suddenly plunged into uncertainty.
So, why might Wolves be about to lose Julen Lopetegui? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well – according to Balague – Wolves promised to back Lopetegui with signings this summer.
However – due to Financial Fair Play issues – Wolves are going to have to sell players before they can even think about investing in new recruits, meaning they will break their promise to the Spaniard.
Talks are set to take place between Lopetegui and Wolves this week to address the situation, although things do not sound promising as Balague describes the issue as a “sad turn of events” at Molineux.
In full, the Spanish journalist wrote on Twitter: “What a sad turn of events with Lopetegui and Wolves. With the club unable to get the signings/investment they promised him and instead having to sell to keep up with FFP, his future is in doubt even though he is under contract Talks this week between club and him will get us a clearer picture.”
If Lopetegui – who Garth Crooks thinks would be a good appointment for Tottenham – were to leave Wolves after just seven months, it would represent a major setback.
The Asteasu-born tactician has done an excellent job in the Midlands, taking Wolves up to 13th in the Premier League having found them in the relegation zone when appointed in November.
Who could replace Lopetegui at Wolves?
If Lopetegui does end up leaving Molineux, there are a few unemployed coaches who could be hired immediately.
The likes of Graham Potter, Brendan Rodgers, Jesse Marsch, Ralph Hasenhuttl, Javi Gracia and Steven Gerrard are currently available.

If Wolves were feeling ambitious, they could attempt to hire Antonio Conte, who is unemployed after losing his job at Tottenham in March.
Whatever happens, Wolves fans should not expect to see many new signings arrive at Molineux this summer, as sales are needed.
