Tony Adams lauded Matty Cash’s display from the weekend as he told Sky Sports (10/11/20 at 10:15 am) that the Aston Villa defender had Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ‘in his pocket’.
The England legend praised the 23-year-old for how he has worked his way up through the system and even admitted that he would have ‘loved him in an Arsenal shirt’.
It has been a quite brilliant start to the season for Cash, who arrived in the summer from Nottingham Forest, and he has already become a fan favourite.
Following Villa’s 3-0 win at the Emirates on Sunday, Adams was a clear fan of energetic midfielder turned right-back.
“Look at Villa, the right-back Matty Cash the other night,” said Adams. “Wow. Slough boy. Dagenham and Redbridge. He’s gone to Nottingham Forest. What a player. He’s 23.
“Aubameyang was in his pocket. Athletic, strong, what a great player. I thought that was a fantastic right-back performance and I would have loved him in an Arsenal shirt.”
It was some performance from Cash, who has showcased aggression, pace, power and enthusiasm in his play since moving from the East Midlands to the West Midlands.
At the start of the summer, not may Villa supporters would have predicted that their first signing would be a right-back because it was an area that was already filled by Ahmed Elmohamady and Frederic Guilbert.
But Dean Smith saw something and he is now thriving in his new colours at Villa Park.
