Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are two of quite a few clubs linked to signing Memphis Depay.
The Netherlands attacker is about to leave Lyon on a free transfer his contract expired.
FC Inter News reported earlier in June that Tottenham were keen on the former Manchester United winger.
And two months ago, Liverpool were rivalling Barcelona to bring him to Anfield [Marca].
Depay opened the scoring in tonight’s 3-0 win over Georgia, and then set up Wout Weghorst for the second.
He also bagged a brace for his country in midweek as he continues to warm up for the European Championship.
Here’s how some rival fans on Twitter reacted to the Spurs and Liverpool-linked player’s latest outing:
Hope for Spurs and Liverpool
Barca look like winning the race to sign Depay.
That being said, the Camp Nou club also looked like shoe-ins to sign Gini Wijnaldum as he prepares to leave Liverpool.
But the Dutchman – and Depay’s international colleague – is now heading to Paris Saint-Germain after the Ligue 1 club hijacked the transfer.
It doesn’t mean the same will happen with Depay, but it does illustrate how quick things can change and neither the Reds, nor Tottenham, should concede defeat until there is something signed.
