Crystal Palace loan star Conor Gallagher has been called up for England’s final FIFA World Cup qualifying match against San Marino this week.
The Three Lions announced on their official website that the 21-year-old midfielder had been chosen by Gareth Southgate to come into the senior squad after a slew of players left the camp following injury.
Jordan Henderson and Jack Grealish have both returned to their parent clubs to assess injuries. Whilst Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw have not travelled.
Indeed, there was uproar when Gallagher wasn’t initially selected for the England squad earlier in the month. However, injuries have allowed the midfielder the chance to represent the Three Lions at senior level.
Gallagher, who earns a reported £17,000-a-week, has been a key part of England’s squads at youth level. With the midfielder being part of the side that won the U-17 World Cup in India in 2017.
Moreover, the midfielder will have now a chance to play alongside other members of that squad in Emile Smith Rowe and Phil Foden this week in San Marino.
