Rio Ferdinand spoke in awe about Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish by claiming that the ‘intelligent’ playmaker showed ‘loyalty’ to his boyhood club this season, as he told his official YouTube channel.

During the dying minutes of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, Grealish stepped up and scored the decisive goal that kept Villa in England’s top-flight.

Since then, he has scored four goals and assisted the same amount in the league this season, including over the weekend during Villa’s 4-3 defeat against Southampton.

Ferdinand shared nothing but positive words about the in-form attacker by simply stating ‘what a player and made it clear that he wants to see him playing for England. .

“As long as they keep Jack Grealish fit then they are going to be in games and have chances,” said Ferdinand. “The kid scores, he creates and he is an absolute joy to watch. What a player!

“Somebody I am keeping a close eye on in terms of England. I want to see him play for England. I think he deserves it.

“I think he is a top player. I think he can play in multiple positions. He is intelligent enough. Big call to stay at Aston Villa if he had opportunities to go elsewhere. He showed a bit of loyalty there.”

Grealish wasn’t even handed a single minute of competitive action during his last England trip – he started and was Man of the Match during the Three Lions friendly win over Wales and was the snubbed.

Gareth Southgate is due to name his England squad this Thursday for the upcoming international matches and Villa’s thriving star will be hoping to feature.

Most people would think that it’s a given that Grealish will be selected now, but considering how Southgate has treated him in recent times, there is nothing that will surprise the Villa fans now.
