Eric Dier offered a blast from the past for Tottenham Hotspur supporters yesterday by uploading an Instagram photograph of Mousa Dembele.
The Tottenham defender joined up with his former teammate on holiday.
Dembele is one of the best players to have pulled on a Spurs shirt down the years, with Mauricio Pochettino labelling him a ‘genius‘ at one point.
During segments on Soccer Am amongst other interviews, Lilywhites of the past and present would invariably name the Belgium international as the best player at the club.
And Erik Lamela seems like he is also a massive fan of the powerful midfielder.
Respondong to Dier’s post yesterday, the Argentine, who left Tottenham last summer, wrote: “Mousalito what a player.”
Kyle Walker, who swapped the North Londoners for Manchester City in 2017, posted a goat emoji to suggest his affection for Dembele as a player, too.
Dembele certainly isn’t the greatest of all time, despite Walker’s intimation, but he definitely was a phenomenal football for Spurs.
In fact, you could argue that Tottenham have never replaced him.
The Belgian left North London for £11 million in 2019 and Pierre-Emile Hojberg is the closest to a replacement that the club has found.
But as good as the Denmark international can be, he doesn’t glide around the pitch, shield the ball or pass like Dembele used to under Pochettino.
