Marcus Edwards was back in the Tottenham Hotspur limelight on Tuesday, but this time, causing havoc against his former club in the colours of Sporting Lisbon.

The 23-year-old, once compared to Lionel Messi by Mauricio Pochettino, impressed as Sporting beat Antonio Conte’s side 2-0 in the Champions League.

From one academy star to another, one player that was watching from afar was Kyle Walker-Peters and he praised his former teammate by writing in the comments section of Edwards’ Instagram post ‘what a player man’.

If there were some Spurs fans unsure as to how Edwards has got on since leaving Hotspur Way, well they got a lot of answers yesterday because he was one of the best players on the pitch.

Just before the first half of that game, Edwards went on a crazy run that nearly resulted in him, not scoring a goal of the season contender, but one of the best Champions League goals ever.

But all in all, it was an outstanding display from the 23-year-old and a reminder that you can live off your hype after hitting a few stumbling blocks in between.

WOULD WALKER-PETERS AND EDWARDS START FOR SPURS?

The duo departed the comfort of Tottenham, where they were being lauded, for regular minutes elsewhere and it’s paying off.

Walker-Peters went closer to home and headed to Southampton, where he is used both as a right and left-sided wing-back, performances that have landed him in England colours.

On the other hand, Edwards jetted off to Portugal and sweated it out in the bright lights of Vitória, before pushing higher up the league where he is shining in Lisbon.

It could be argued that both players would now get into Tottenham’s XI, especially someone like Walker-Peters who would suit Conte’s wing-back role perfectly.
