Speaking on the Official Leeds United Podcast, Jermaine Beckford has been full of praise for Leo Hjelde after his performance against West Ham United.

The Whites ran out 3-2 winners against West Ham at the weekend, and Hjelde made his Premier League debut in that game.

The youngster took to the big stage like a duck to water, expertly handling both Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen.

Beckford was blown away by the 18-year-old, claiming that he’s looking very promising.

What’s Beckford said about Hjelde?

The former striker was full of praise for the young defender.

“The young boy Hjelde, what a player he is looking like by the way. I don’t want to put too much pressure on him, but that’s twice we’ve seen him against West Ham, against a very strong, very quick, very physical forward in Michail Antonio and a very tricky player in Jarrod Bowen. I don’t want to say that he had them in his pocket, but I think he did. So it’s looking very very good and very promising for the future as well,” Beckford said.

Future is bright

Hjelde impressed on his Leeds debut, and believe us, there’s plenty more where that came from.

The Whites have so many talented U23s players, and once they start coming through, there could be something of a golden era sparked at Elland Road.

The likes of Sam Greenwood, Lewis Bate, Hjelde and Charlie Cresswell all have the ability to be first-team stars.

Leeds’ investment in youth is finally starting to pay off, and in the coming years it could get even better.
