Peter Schmeichel spoke in glowing terms about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance for Liverpool during their 3-2 win against AC Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The former Old Trafford goalkeeper stated ‘what a player he is’, as he praised the ‘beautiful’ combination play the Liverpool 22-year-old has with Mohamed Salah, as he told Paramount+ on CBS Sports (15/09/21 at 10:15 pm).
It was Alexander-Arnold and Salah who combined on the right that opened the scoring for Liverpool yesterday in their opening Champions League fixture for the new campaign.
Salah, whilst hugging the touchline, played a lovely forward pass to Alexander-Arnold, who made a surging run inside the penalty area and his cross was deflected into the back of the net by former Chelsea man, Fikayo Tomori.
Schmeichel was in attendance on Merseyside yesterday, and with his Manchester United hat on, he couldn’t help but enjoy AC Milan’s first-half comeback before they eventually lost out.
“I was a bit excited towards the end of the first half when AC Milan came back,” said Schmeichel. “There was absolutely no need for Milan to be let into this game.
“Liverpool were dominant right from the beginning. The big players, you know, Trent Alexander-Arnold, what a player he is.
“The way he combines with Salah, it’s just beautiful to watch.”

Last season, like many Liverpool players, Alexander-Arnold had a number of topsy-turvy moments, which also left many questioning his England career.
But he bounced back in fine style, towards the back end of the last campaign and earned himself a spot in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad.
And despite a lot of the talk being about him and his possible selection or non-selection going into that tournament, he was unfortunate to get injured just when he was picked.
During this campaign, he has, once again, been back to his best and could possibly claim to be one of the best right-backs in Europe, right now.
