Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has bigged up Lisandro Martinez on Instagram after he secured a transfer to Manchester United from Ajax.

The technical defender was linked with a host of clubs this summer, including Champions League side Tottenham Hotspur, but instead, he secured a £56.7 million transfer to Old Trafford, as reported by Sky Sports.

When Martinez expressed that it was an ‘amazing feeling’ and a ‘huge honour’ to sign for Manchester’s biggest club, he received a number of welcoming messages in the comments section.

Tottenham’s Romero simply stated ‘what a player’, whilst Paulo Dybala sent his ‘congratulations’ to his Argentina teammate.

MARTINEZ AND ROMERO ARE TWO TOP DEFENDERS

When the 2022 World Cup in Qatar comes along, the no-nonsense, Lionel Scaloni, has two high-quality defenders to pick from.

Romero has already showcased to English fans what he is all about when he helped Tottenham secure Champions League football last term.

A hard-hitting defender, with great presence, he covers the ground well in a back three and not many players are able to get past his brute strength.

Martinez is very different to his countryman in the sense, that from a positional standpoint, he is better than Romero, reads danger very well, he has outstanding passing ability and he is quicker off the ground.

Whilst there is all this nonsense about Martinez’s height, he will fair well in Man United colours and he might just find himself in a battle with Romero next season because both Erik Ten Hag and Antonio Conte will want Champions League football.
