Jamie Carragher told CBS Sports live coverage of Liverpool’s 2-0 win against RB Leipzig that Divock Origi ‘made a difference’ from the bench last night.

Liverpool progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League by beating the German side 4-0 on aggregate.

But whilst the Liverpool legend was raving about Origi’s 32-minute cameo from the bench, he was called out for his comments by his fellow pundit, Micah Richards.

The former right-back shared that Carragher stated off-air, two minutes before Origi was going to come on, ‘what’s he going to do?’

Well, the £10 million Belgian striker (BBC Sport), who hasn’t had the best of seasons, channelled his inner-Kevin de Bruyne and produced a pin-point cross for Sadio Mane to slot home.

This is what Carragher had to say about Origi’s display from the bench, with Richards comments added in.

“That man Divock Origi, what a player and substitute he has been,” said Carragher.

His comments are then met with laughter from his fellow pundits, including Richards.

The ex-Man City defender was asked ‘what he is laughing at’ to which he responded: “Two minutes before he came on he said ‘what’s he going to do?'”

Carragher then laughed and said: “He’s good in the Champions League. He scored in that Champions League final but he came on and made a difference.

“That’s something that hasn’t happened for a while. Liverpool substitutes coming on and actually making an impact.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

That winning feeling was much-needed for this Liverpool side, who have been slapped, left, right and centre domestically.

But goals from Mo Salah and Mane, added with a clean sheet and strong performances from the likes of Nat Phillips, will hopefully result in all of that transcending into their Premier League.

If that’s the case then those worries about not finishing in the top-four might just ease, but at this moment in time, it’s still a big worry.
