‘What a mess’: Some Spurs fans react to official update on Lo Celso and Romero last night

Tottenham fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero will be returning back to the club.

On Tuesday evening, Argentina’s official Twitter account posted that the Spurs duo won’t take part in their clash against Bolivia and will now be heading back to Spurs.

It was suggested early on Tuesday that the two players were still with the Argentina camp, whilst Aston Villa duo Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia were returning back to England, as reported by the Athletic.

But it seems as though Romero and Lo Celso have been released as well, after farcical scenes over the weekend.

Spurs fans have rightly pointed out that this whole saga has been a complete and utter mess.

What was the point in the players travelling in the first place? And, according to Sky Sports, they seemingly did so without their club’s permission.

Either way, Lo Celso, Romero, Martinez and Buendia were all accused of breaking COVID rules and not quarantining for 14 days upon their arrival in Brazil.

All of that eventually resulted in health officials storming the pitch and stopping Argentina’s World Cup qualifier with Brazil after five minutes on Sunday evening.

Both Lo Celso and Romero were on the pitch, at the time, and it seems as though they only travelled all that way, for all that drama, just to play five minutes of football.

Either way, whilst the Spurs faithful understand this saga hasn’t benefited many people.

They are glad that their players are returning, but they clearly won’t be available for their clash against Crystal Palace at the weekend.
