A new chapter has begun at Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp’s departure and the arrival of Arne Slot.

You feel it’s going to be a weird feeling for many associated with the club because the German was on Merseyside for nearly a decade.

There are still some Liverpool players competing at major tournaments – Euro 2024 and Copa America – or on their holidays after their nations were recently booted out.

Cody Gakpo is certainly having the time of his life at Euro 2024 – the Netherlands will meet England in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

But the rest of the gang have returned to pre-season and you wonder what changes will be made this summer after Klopp’s exit from Liverpool.

Slowly but surely, the crop of players that won so much are now fading away. From Sadio Mane to Jordan Henderson.

One player who played a behind-the-scenes role at Anfield is back-up goalkeeper Adrian – he played a total of 26 games in all competitions after his transfer in 2019.

But the 37-year-old’s time at Liverpool has come to an end after he decided to move back to Spain and re-join Real Betis – his boyhood club and his hometown of Seville.

Adrian took to Instagram to share a video for the fans and how proud he was of repping the red shirt.

In the comments section of Adrian’s IG post, several players, both past and present, reacted to the news and shared their thoughts, including Dejan Lovren and Virgil van Dijk.

Adrian leaves Liverpool and re-joins Real Betis

“Well done, brother,” wrote Lovren. “What a man you are and how professional you have been all these years, it’s incredible. Be proud of yourself. Good luck with your new club.”

Wataru Endo posted: “All the best.”, whilst Virgil van Dijk told him: “Thank You, Adrian.”

Harvey Elliott added: “Gonna miss you, amigo. It was a pleasure.” And Diogo Jota joked: “Good luck coach.”

Liverpool’s number one Alisson Becker

One thing that can’t be argued is that Alisson Becker is the king of the jungle at Anfield and the undisputed number one.

During these last few years, Liverpool didn’t end Klopp’s reign as they would have liked with a number of iffy performances across the shop.

But you could argue that Alisson has been the most consistent performer, even if some suggested the Liverpool star is ‘overrated’ on the ball.

Robin van Persie has backed Slot to do well at Liverpool and if that is to come true, then he needs the Brazilian shot-stopper at his best.
