Adama Lallana finally got a chance to say goodbye to the Liverpool fanbase as he returned to Anfield with Brighton on Saturday, sparking some Reds fans to react on social media.
Lallana left Liverpool at the end of his contract last year before joining Brighton on a free transfer. He spent six-years on Merseyside following a £25m move from Southampton in 2014, while making 178 appearances across all competitions.
The 34-cap England international also helped Jurgen Klopp win the Champions League in 2018/19 and Premier League in 2019/20. And added winners’ medals from the 2019 UEFA Super Cup and 2020 FIFA Club World Cup to his trophy cabinet.

Lallana occupied a lesser role in Klopp’s plans during the Brighton star’s final years as a Liverpool player. He featured just 40 times over his final three Premier League campaigns at Anfield, starting nine and only scoring once.
His last appearance for the Reds in any competition came in March 2020 with a six-minute cameo against Bournemouth. But the Cherries’ visit to Anfield also marked their last game before coronavirus meant the season was suspended.

Unfortunately for Lallana, fans remained locked out of stadia in England when Brighton visited Liverpool this February. So, the Seagulls’ trip this weekend offered their £90k-a-week ace a chance to play in front of a packed Anfield for the first time since his farewell.
The 33-year-old played 77-minutes of the affair and provided his first assist in 10 top-flight appearances so far this season. Laying the ball up for Leandro Trossard’s equaliser as the south coast side fought back from two-goals behind. With the game ending a 2-2 draw.

Lallana clearly still has fond feelings for Liverpool and their fans, however. The Brighton ace took a lap of Anfield after the full-time whistle to wave to the supporters he was denied a chance to say goodbye to last year. Sparking some Reds fans to react on social media…
