Punishments were handed out to the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal on Wednesday following the fallout from the recently-failed European Super League.
And it’s fair to say, the punishments put forward for the likes of Spurs and Arsenal, as well as the rest of the so-called big six hasn’t pleased supporters on Twitter.
Many are annoyed at the outcome, with the six clubs agreeing to pay in a tad over £20 million for their actions, as reported by Sky Sports.
That just over a fine of £3.5 million each and a 30 points deduction warning if they try such a thing again.
That debacle from April was met with a lot of anger when it was first announced, and both Spurs and Arsenal weren’t put in a positive light.
Arsenal ended the season without any European football at all, despite their owners trying such moves, whilst Spurs ended up in the newly-formed, European Conference – all of which made matters worse for their owners.
But despite that, the actions of all involved was wrong and down to nothing but pure greed.
Perhaps what the owners of these clubs didn’t expect is their own supporters turning on them, which escalated things and ensured they went from telling fans they are entering this ESL to releasing statements days later apologising for their actions.
Supporters weren’t the only ones fuming with yesterday’s ESL news because Gary Neville also labelled it an ’embarrassment‘.
It does seem as though these clubs have got away with it, in regards to punishments, when clubs in England’s lower leagues face points deductions, yet those at the top have received ‘slap on the wrist’-like fines for trying to enter the ESL.
