Everton fans were quick to defend Jordan Pickford’s performance for England last night after they suffered a 2-0 defeat in Belgium.

Both goals were scored early on in the game, including a free-kick and Everton’s man between the sticks couldn’t really do anything about them.

But those at Goodison Park weren’t too pleased that their 26-year-old shot-stopper was used as a ‘scapegoat’ for the goals that were scored by the number one ranked team in the world.

Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans fired the hosts ahead when his long-range effort took a knick off Tyrone Mings before hitting the post and going into the back of the net.

Then Dries Mertens doubled his side’s lead when he whipped in a free-kick from the edge of the penalty area, as England’s wall failed to jump.

All in all, Pickford wasn’t to blame for any of the goals that were conceded and Everton fans were trying to prevent their player being on the end of criticism once again.

Whilst Pickford has had his critics on the club scene when it comes to the international stage, he has looked a different animal and a trustworthy player in between the sticks.
