Micah Richards has paid tribute to Rangers boss Steven Gerrard ahead of what could be a glorious weekend on the blue half of the Old Firm divide.

The Gers could be crowned Scottish Premiership champions this afternoon for the first time since 2011.

If Celtic fail to beat Dundee United, Rangers will seal a 55th league title after beating St Mirren 3-0 at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.

This will feel even sweeter for the light Blues by virtue of the fact that it spoils their Glasgow rivals’ 10-in-a-row bid.

Gerrard went into this season with a big question mark over his capacity to lead Rangers back to the top of the pile in Scotland, after the last two campaigns resulted in the Parkhead club sauntering to domestic success on every front.

But 28 wins, four draws and no defeats from 32 league games this time around is an emphatic response by Gerrard and a statement that he has always been the right man.

Here’s what Richards told The Daily Mail: “Steven Gerrard — what a guy! He is within touching distance of winning the Scottish Premiership. I have tried to think of the right word to describe his achievement with Rangers and the one I landed on was ‘inspirational’.

“Celtic are having a difficult season but they are still a good side. They haven’t been able to live with Rangers, though, and that is down to Gerrard’s outstanding work.”
