Gary Mabbutt has praised Ange Postecoglou for making Son Heung-min Tottenham captain.
In the summer, Hugo Lloris was heading for the Tottenham exit door so, as a result, he gave up the captain’s armband.
In the end, Tottenham’s longest-serving ended up staying put, with Ange Postecoglou still handing the role of skipper to Son Heung-min.
A certain Harry Kane was probably the front-runner to be the next captain, but he opted to head to Bayern Munich days before the new Premier League season started.
Either way, Son Heung-min is still a popular pick, with Gary Mabbutt stating that those around the £22 million star (FourFourTwo) ‘respect’ the player as he is a ‘fantastic lad’, as he told talkSPORT.
Eight games in, the 31-year-old already has a hat trick to his name, a goal at Arsenal and the team sitting top of the Premier League table.

Son as Tottenham’s captain
“Sonny being made captain, what a great decision that was,” said Mabbutt. “Sonny is a great lad. Fantastic lad. You want him to do well.
“The hat-trick he scored a couple of weeks ago and now you are seeing him getting involved more and more with players on the field. Talking with players on the field. Those around him respect Sonny and he’s got younger players around him now that he is a senior figure.”

Tottenham’s aim for this season
Some would argue that it has changed given the start they have made, which has probably surprised those inside the four walls of Hotspur Way themselves.
The aim before a ball was kicked probably would have been to secure Champions League football, or at the very least, a return to Europe.
Well, given that Spurs are sitting top of the tree after eight games, then the expectancy levels have probably changed.
