
Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards is reportedly close to joining RB Leipzig in January following reports that he will leave Anfield this season.
According to Sport Bild via the Daily Mail, the Anfield figure, who is a favourite of Jurgen Klopp at the club, will join the Bundesliga giants in two months time. Edwards is set to depart Liverpool at some point this season.
And it appears that Leipzig will be Edwards’ next destination. The German side are renowned as one of the best-run clubs in Europe, with the Red Bull network of teams around the world one of the most interesting projects in the game.
Leipzig are viewed as the pinnacle of the Red Bull football network. And Edwards heading up football operations at the club makes a lot of sense for the German club.
Edwards has been key to Liverpool’s transformation from a top-six side in the Premier League to once again being a force in Europe. With the sporting director signing the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for Klopp.
Indeed, replacing him will be no mean feat. Yet Liverpool fans on social media are stunned that Edwards is potentially heading to Leipzig of all clubs.
