Some Leeds United fans on Twitter are purring over Alfie McCalmont.

The Whites loaned out the Northern Ireland international to League Two side Oldham Athletic this past summer.

McCalmont enjoyed a great start to life away from Leeds on loan, starting regularly and setting up a winner here and there.

But the 20-year-old has struggled for regular football in recent weeks and has been left on the bench in four successive league outings.

Last night he started in the EFL Trophy against Bradford City and his performance might lead to more league appearances in the near future.

That’s because the Leeds youngster scored twice during the 3-1 win, bagging on 84 minutes to make it 2-1 and then again in added time.

Here’s how fans of the Elland Road side reacted to his brace on Twitter:

The young midfielder must use this double as a springboard toward turning around his stint in League Two.

It’s still early days but, as mentioned, this is a full international and he won’t want to get into a funk of always being named on the bench.

It’s imperative for his future at Leeds that he returns to Thorp Arch after playing regularly – that way, the United coaches can get a proper good look at him on a regular basis and make a decision next summer.
